Brooke
When Brooke’s anxiety and depression began to peak and interfere with her otherwise healthy lifestyle, we knew there would be tough times ahead and an abusive boyfriend only complicated her emotional turmoil. At some point when she was 17, she finally spoke up about struggling with self harm and suicidal thoughts and she would often act out in anger and violence whenever we tried to be involved and “help.” We didn’t know where to turn but thank God, a very close family friend came to Brooke’s rescue. This friend arranged for $10,000’s worth of scholarship funds to admit Brooke into a wilderness therapy program which would eventually change her course, and impact her for the rest of her life.
We could never have afforded the program without our friend’s help. To this day, we do not even know the person or people who donated the funds to help Brooke, but we are forever grateful to them.
What Life is Like Now…
Brooke is living testimony that the right course of action can change a teen’s (or young adult’s) life and as expensive as treatment can be, there are wonderful people in the world who are financially equipped to help. So, from Brooke and her parents, thank you to whoever made that sacrifice to help!
